FM Unity 2026 guide: weights, sink & overmax
This guide covers the fundamentals of Forgemaging: rune weights, sink logic and overmax limits. The goal is to give you a clear method to avoid losses and optimize your sessions.
This guide is independent, written for informational and educational purposes for the Dofus community. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Ankama Games.
Weights and examples are based on Dofus Unity 2026 and actual Forgemaging sessions.
Unity brings a cleaner interface, but the calculations remain the same. A good understanding of weight and sink lets you secure your exos and maximize your successes.
Use the table as a quick reference before each FM session.

What endgame players do
Endgame players favor stable runes and only attempt exos on items with high turnover.
Why this guide exists
Forgemaging is one of the most complex activities in Dofus. Without a reference, you waste time, runes and Kamas. This guide exists to clarify the rules and provide a reliable foundation at every level.
I. Introduction to forgemaging: the art of optimization
Forgemaging (often called FM) is the ultimate endgame activity for Dofus players. It's the art of modifying an equipment's stats to make it more powerful, either by pushing its natural rolls to the max (a perfect), or by adding stats that weren't originally on the item (overmax or exo).
To succeed at FM, you absolutely need to understand rune weights. Every stat (Strength, Vitality, AP, MP) has an intrinsic value called weight or density. When a rune fails and causes another stat to drop, it generates a sink (also called the well). This sink is the invisible currency that lets you land runes for free afterwards. Without knowing the exact weight of each rune, you're maging blind and risking your most valuable items.
II. Full rune weight table & overmax limits
This table is the bible of every forgemage. It lists the unit weight of normal, Pa and Ra runes, along with the base stat weight and the theoretical overmax you can reach (without sink).
| Stat | Normal rune | Rune Pa | Rune Ra | Unit weight | Theoretical overmax |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ga PA | 100 | - | - | 100 | 1 |
| Ga PM | 90 | - | - | 90 | 1 |
| Range (PO) | 51 | - | - | 51 | 1 |
| Summon (Invo) | 30 | - | - | 30 | 3 |
| Damage (Do) | 20 | - | - | 20 | 5 |
| Do Per Ar / Di / Me / So | 15 | - | - | 15 | 6 |
| Heals | 10 | 30 | - | 10 | 10 |
| % Critical (Cri) | 10 | - | - | 10 | 10 |
| Damage reflect | 10 | - | - | 10 | 20 |
| MP / AP reduction | 7 | 21 | - | 7 | 14 |
| MP / AP dodge | 7 | 21 | - | 7 | 14 |
| % Resistance (T/E/N/F/A) | 6 | - | - | 6 | 16 |
| Do (T/E/N/F/A) | 5 | 15 | - | 5 | 20 |
| Crit Do / Pushback Do / Trap Do | 5 | 15 | - | 5 | 20 |
| Hunting | 5 | - | - | 5 | - |
| Lock / Dodge | 4 | 12 | - | 4 | 25 |
| Prospecting | 3 | 9 | - | 3 | 33 |
| Wisdom | 3 | 9 | 30 | 3 | 33 |
| Power / Trap Pui | 2 | 6 | 20 | 2 | 50 |
| Fixed Resistance / Cri / Pou | 2 | 6 | - | 2 | 50 |
| Strength / Intel / Chance / Agi | 1 | 3 | 10 | 1 | 101 |
| Vitality | 0.25 | 0.75 | 2.5 | 0.25 | 404 |
| Pods | 0.25 | 0.75 | 2.5 | 0.25 | 404 |
| Initiative | 0.1 | 0.3 | 1 | 0.1 | 1010 |
III. Understanding the sink (the well)
The sink is at the heart of Forgemaging. When a rune "jumps" (it disappears from the item after another rune fails), it leaves behind its weight as sink.
Concrete example: You try to land a Strength rune on a hat. The rune fails ("-1 AP"). AP has a weight of 100. You now have a sink of 100. You can land 100 runes of weight 1 (like Strength) without the item losing any other stats as long as the sink isn't depleted. This is the perfect moment for a massive overmax or to push low stats back up.
IV. Limits: overmax & exomage
There are strict rules set by the game to prevent items from becoming too powerful:
- Overmax: You can't exceed a total weight of 101 per stat in bonus. For example, you can push Strength up to 101 overmax, but not Range (because 2 PO = 102 weight, which exceeds the 101 cap).
- Exomage: This is adding a stat that doesn't naturally exist on the item (e.g., an Anneau Meulou with an AP exo). The critical success rate for an AP/MP/PO exo is a flat 1%, regardless of your profession level.
- Sink priority: The sink is always consumed first before the item loses any stats. Learning to "read" the combat log to know how much sink remains is what separates good forgemages from great ones.
V. Advanced strategies for Dofus Unity 2026
With Dofus Unity's modern interface, Forgemaging has become more visual, but the calculations remain the same. Here are three tips to optimize your sessions:
- Smoothing: Before attempting a big exo, make sure all small lines (fixed resistances, dodges) are close to their max roll. These small lines have low weight (2 to 7) but can drain your sink very quickly if they drop while you're pushing AP back up.
- Sacrificing Vitality: Vitality has the lowest weight (0.25). It's often the adjustment variable. You accept an average Vitality roll to get a perfect Power or Strength overmax.
- Mental math: Always keep a calculator or the Dafous.app table open. Yew a Ra Vi rune (weight 2.5) drops, it leaves almost nothing. Yew a Summon rune (weight 30) drops, that's a massive opportunity.
Economic context in 2026
Rune prices follow server activity and events. AP, MP and PO runes remain the most expensive, while basic stat runes fluctuate with craft and crushing waves.
To keep costs down, compare rune prices to the crafting cost of the item you'd crush. Reading market trends well saves you a lot.
Pro tips
In my sessions, I always push the weak lines back up first to stabilize the item, then I use the sink on heavy runes only when conditions are right. I never start a run without calculating weights and I set a loss threshold before I begin. I also keep a stock of basic runes to smooth things out quickly and avoid impulsive decisions.
Real experience report (FM)
Server week from March 17 to 23, 2026: for me, profit margins ranged between 290,000 and 870,000 Kamas depending on the item category and stop discipline.
What didn't work for me: insisting on exos in a row after blowing past the budget. Losses accelerated without improving the success rate.
What worked for me: cutting negative sessions early, switching to clean rolls with fast turnover, then saving exos for favorable price windows.
Decision framework: when to start (or stop) an FM session
The difference between a profitable session and one that bleeds Kamas comes down to stop rules. Before you click, set a clear limit.
- Set a maximum budget per item (e.g., 8 to 12% of the target resale value).
- Set a maximum number of attempts for the exo (e.g., 50 tries on a batch).
- Stop if losses exceed both your psychological AND financial threshold.
- Don't re-roll "to make it back" — switch to a more stable item.
Mini profitability matrix (practical example)
| Scenario | Rune + base cost | Target selling price | Recommended decision |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard FM clean roll | Low to medium | Medium | Yes, regular volume |
| Targeted overmax with available sink | Medium | Good | Yes, if sales channel is active |
| Exo AP/MP without stable sink | High | Variable | Only with dedicated budget |
| Niche item with low demand | Medium to high | Uncertain | Avoid, long tie-up |
FM session journal (pro method)
Keeping a simple journal over 10 to 20 sessions helps you identify your real gains and your false "good moves".
- Write down the item, starting roll, total rune cost and final result.
- Separate quick profits (sold within 24h) from slow sales (several days).
- Calculate your profitable item rate per category (standard, overmax, exo).
- Only keep categories that stay positive over several weeks.
This "profession" approach reduces emotional decisions and improves profit consistency.
FAQ
Q1: Is the sink always useful?
A1: Yes, it lets you land heavy runes without losing other lines.
Q2: Which exo is the most profitable?
A2: AP and MP exos are still the most sought-after, but also the riskiest.
Q3: Should you FM solo?
A3: Yes, but rely on a solid table and accurate tracking.
Q4: How to avoid major failures?
A4: Calculate the weight, monitor the sink and stop before you crash.
Overall analysis
Forgemaging is a profession of endurance and calculation. With a rigorous method, it becomes a major lever for profits and optimization on Unity.
