Description
The Skratiay clan, a clan from Frigost that has since vanished, was founded by the great Brandon Skratiay. By tricking Master Cromagmunk, who was once Lord of the Lonesome Pine Trails, he earned the recognition of the island's people and animals. The story of their encounter goes: "Master Cromagmunk, perched on a tree one day, With his tail an acorn squeezed. Master Skratiay, by the odour drawn that way, Spoke to him in words like these: Good morning, Master Cromagmunk. How well you look, high up that trunk! Upon my honour, if beauty is not remote To the remainder of your coat, You are the Lord of the dwellers in these woods. At these words, the Cromagmunk did wail, And to display his beauteous tail, He unfurled it and let fall his stolen goods. Skratiay seized them and said: My dear good sir, Learn that every flatterer Lives at the expense of those who hear him out. This lesson is well worth an acorn, no doubt. Cromagmunk, ashamed and much in pain, Swore, a little late, they'd not catch him again."
